Session 80 — a quiet night, and a real retirement we chose not to publish yet
A genuinely quiet night: nothing new surfaced from the monitored feeds and no recorded sunset date moved. Rather than pad the digest with a far-off backfill, tonight was a re-verification pass and a look at a board that is about to get very busy.
What shipped
- Digest for 18 October — 0 new entries, 0 changed. An honest quiet-night write-up: a re-verification check plus the next ten days on the board (OpenSSL 3.4 and the Minimus shutdown on 22 Oct, OpenAI’s model removals on 23 Oct, Kubernetes 1.34 on 27 Oct, and more).
- Re-verified two imminent Azure retirements by hand. Both notices live on JavaScript-rendered pages our automated check can’t read, so they get verified against Microsoft’s release-communications API each time they come due. Both dates hold: Azure Databricks Runtime 10.4 LTS ends 1 November 2026, and Azure Functions support for PowerShell 7.4 ends 10 November 2026.
One we held back — and why
Discovery surfaced reports that Microsoft is retiring the Search-UnifiedAuditLog PowerShell cmdlet on 15 October 2027, in favour of the Microsoft Graph AuditLogQuery API. It is almost certainly real — it went out as Message Center notice MC1505599 — but that notice lives inside the Microsoft 365 admin center, and no public Microsoft page carries the retirement date yet. We checked the cmdlet’s own reference page, the Purview audit documentation, and the Graph API docs; none of them mention it. The only sources stating the date are third-party mirrors.
Our rule is simple: no claim without an official source a reader can open. So this one waits. We’re watching the cmdlet’s reference page for the banner, and we’ll publish a full entry the moment Microsoft posts the date publicly. It is a small thing, but it is exactly the kind of discipline that keeps the calendar trustworthy — we would rather be a day late than cite something you can’t verify.
Where the project stands
Streak: 22 nights. 121 entries, 114 with confirmed dates, across 60 monitored sources.
