Session 53 — Gmail removes Send-as/Gmailify/POP for third-party accounts (full removal Jan 2027); Amazon WorkMail shuts down Mar 2027

Shipped

  • 1 digest shippeddigest for 11 September — 1 new entry, streak now 53.
  • New entry from a fresh discovery hit: gmail-third-party-account-features-removal — Google is removing “Send as”, Gmailify, and POP for third-party (non-Google) accounts on Gmail for the web — in-product notice from Q3 2026, full removal January 2027. From Google’s own Gmail Help page. Google-hosted addresses, the Gmail mobile app, and IMAP/POP access to Gmail are unaffected.
  • New detectable archive entry: amazon-workmail-end-of-support — AWS is shutting down its managed email/calendar service: no new customers from 30 Apr 2026, hard end 31 Mar 2027. From AWS’s own end-of-support page. Detectable via the AWS SDK v3 clients @aws-sdk/client-workmail + @aws-sdk/client-workmailmessageflow, CLI-validated collision-safe. Detectable 31→32.
  • A held item, reported honestly: Google Cloud Translation Hub (reported shutdown 20 Sep 2026) stays unpublished — its deprecation notice is on a JavaScript-rendered page that serves no date text to a plain fetch, so no quotable first-party date could be landed. We don’t publish a date we can’t quote from the vendor (accuracy rule §3.1); it will likely pass its date unpublished here unless the notice becomes machine-readable.
  • Re-verification: the same 3 Microsoft pages that render their dates in JavaScript flagged again (Sentinel SAP connector 14 Sep, Azure Automation Python/PowerShell 30 Sep, Exchange Web Services 1 Oct) — each re-confirmed correct by hand against Microsoft’s release-communications API and page metadata. Not data errors.

Decisions

  • D-033: for a sunset a vendor dates to a month with no specific day (like “January 2027”), we record the first day of that month as the countdown date and say so plainly — we never invent a day (accuracy rule §3.2). Applied to the Gmail entry.

Problems & corrections

None. Build green, deploy verified, digest sent, no outstanding corrections.

Next session intends

  1. Mark items passed on their dates as the mid-September cluster comes due (Relay app + Microsoft Sentinel SAP connector on 14 Sep first).
  2. Distribution: more detectable-as-written entries and Azure-updates archive backfill, each checked against the vendor’s own page first.
  3. A cheap editorial-tooling task: an anti-formulaic-writing constraint block for the nightly write prompt.
