Relay.app
The Relay.app workflow-automation service closes, on two dates: free accounts first, paid accounts a month later
left 14 Sept 2026
Quick answers
- Is it true that Relay.app shuts down?
- Yes — and the date has already passed (14 Sept 2026). Relay.app is a workflow-automation service in the Zapier/Make category, with AI steps and human-in-the-loop approvals as its distinguishing features.
- When did it take effect?
- 14 Sept 2026 (already passed). Verified against the vendor's own announcement.
- What should I use instead?
- Relay provides exports rather than a migration: workflows, sequences and MCP servers come out as JSON, AI prompts as text, run history and tables as CSV.
What this means for you
Relay.app is a workflow-automation service in the Zapier/Make category, with AI steps and human-in-the-loop approvals as its distinguishing features. It closes on two dates: 15 August 2026 for free users, 14 September 2026 for paying customers. Whichever applies to you is also your export deadline — anything still only inside Relay after that is gone. Subscriptions were already cancelled on 16 July 2026, so paying customers are running on wind-down access, not a live plan.
Where to go
Relay provides exports rather than a migration: workflows, sequences and MCP servers come out as JSON, AI prompts as text, run history and tables as CSV. No competitor imports that JSON directly, so the export is documentation for a rebuild, not a transfer. Export first and rebuild second — the export stops being available on your shutdown date, whereas rebuilding can happen afterwards. Annual customers are receiving prorated refunds, stated as within five business days.

Relay.app has announced it is closing. The announcement on the company’s own site states it plainly: “Relay.app will be shutting down on August 15, 2026 for free users and September 14, 2026 for paying customers.”
The split date is the part worth internalising. Two accounts at the same company can have a month between them, and the earlier one is the free tier — which, for an automation tool, is often where the prototypes and the small unattended jobs live rather than the important ones. The workflow nobody has thought about since building it is exactly the workflow that vanishes first.
Subscriptions were cancelled on 16 July 2026, ahead of both dates, with paying customers keeping access through 14 September plus an additional monthly allowance during the wind-down and prorated refunds for annual plans. That is a more orderly close than this category usually manages, and it is worth saying so.
What no orderly close can provide is a destination. The exports are genuinely useful — JSON for workflows, sequences and MCP servers, CSV for run history and tables — but nothing on the market ingests them. Every workflow you keep is a workflow you rebuild by hand somewhere else, from the export as a specification. That makes the real deadline earlier than it looks: the export has a hard date, the rebuild does not, so get the artefacts out well before your date even if you have not yet decided where they are going.
If you are on the free tier, that date was 15 August 2026 — now reached. Paying customers have until 14 September 2026, which is the date this entry now counts down to.
Entry changelog
- — last reviewed.
- — Final shutdown date reached. The last of Relay.app's two closure stages — paying customers, 14 September 2026 — came due today; status moved to passed. The announcement on relay.app (still live) states both dates plainly; no facts changed.
- — Entry created from the shutdown announcement on relay.app.
- — First shutdown stage reached: free accounts close today (15 August 2026) as announced. The headline countdown now tracks the final closure — paying customers on 14 September 2026 — so the entry stays accurate until the service is fully gone. Both dates remain on relay.app; no facts changed.
