Quick answers

Is it true that Redis 8.0 end of life on Redis Cloud?
Yes. Redis has officially announced it, effective 1 Dec 2026. On 1 December 2026, Redis 8.0 reaches end of life on Redis Cloud.
When does it take effect?
1 Dec 2026. Verified against the vendor's own announcement.
What should I use instead?
Upgrade the database to a supported version before 1 December 2026.

What this means for you

On 1 December 2026, Redis 8.0 reaches end of life on Redis Cloud. Redis 8.0 shipped as a Short-Term Support, Preview-status version and is already closed to new databases. Any Essentials database still on 8.0 after the date gets auto-upgraded to the next minor version during a maintenance window if you have not upgraded first. Minor-version auto-upgrade is always enabled on Essentials, so the move happens whether or not you act. One scope caveat matters: this is Redis Cloud managed version support, not self-hosted Redis. A Redis 8.0 server you run yourself, including Redis Community Edition and Redis Software, follows a separate lifecycle policy and is not governed by this date.

Where to go

Upgrade the database to a supported version before 1 December 2026. Redis 8.2 is the Long-Term Support release on Redis Cloud, supported to 1 September 2030, and is the safest target. Redis 8.4 is available but is itself a Short-Term Support version that ends on 1 January 2027, so it buys little time. Review the version release notes for breaking changes and back up the data before upgrading. If you do nothing, Redis Cloud performs the upgrade for you at end of life.

  • Redis 8.2 (LTS on Redis Cloud, supported to 2030-09-01)
  • Redis 8.4 (STS on Redis Cloud, EOL 2027-01-01)

Redis 8.0 reaches end of life on Redis Cloud on 1 December 2026. The date comes from Redis’s own version-management documentation, which lists 8.0 as a Short-Term Support release in Preview status, available on the Essentials plan and already closed to new databases.

Redis Cloud runs two support models. Long-Term Support versions get five years of extended support; Short-Term Support versions last six months past the next release. Redis 8.0 is STS, which is why its end-of-life date sits earlier than the 7.2 and 7.4 LTS releases (both supported to December 2029) and the 8.2 LTS release (supported to September 2030). The ordering looks inverted against the version numbers, but it follows directly from the STS-versus-LTS rule.

At end of life, Redis Cloud auto-upgrades an Essentials database still on 8.0 to the next minor version during a maintenance window. Essentials has minor-version auto-upgrade switched on at all times, so this happens with or without action from you. Upgrading on your own schedule beforehand means you pick the window and test against the target version first.

The safest target is Redis 8.2, the current LTS, supported to 1 September 2030. Redis 8.4 exists but is another STS version that ends on 1 January 2027, so moving there only defers the problem by a month. Read the version release notes for breaking changes and back up the data before you upgrade.

One boundary is worth stating plainly, because “Redis 8.0 end of life” reads broader than it is. This date is specific to Redis Cloud’s managed version support. If you run Redis 8.0 yourself, whether Redis Community Edition or Redis Software, a different support policy applies and 1 December 2026 does not affect your deployment.
