Auth0 Rules and Hooks reach end of life next month, and Google pulls five Gemini preview voice models

Two developer deadlines surfaced in discovery today, both in mid-November. Auth0 Rules and Hooks — the legacy way to run custom JavaScript in the login pipeline — stop executing and are removed on 18 November 2026, a forced migration to Actions that has been read-only since 2024. And Google is shutting down five preview audio models on the Gemini API on 17 November: three text-to-speech models and two Live API models, all pointed at the gemini-3.8 successors.

Quiet night on the monitored feeds — nothing new or changed from the 60 Layer-1 sources — but discovery turned up two developer deadlines worth putting on the board, both landing in mid-November.

New on the board

  • Auth0 Rules and Hooks reach end of life on 18 November 2026. Rules and Hooks are the original way to run your own JavaScript inside Auth0 — Rules in the login/authentication pipeline, Hooks at points like pre-user-registration and post-change-password. Auth0 deprecated both in 2023 for Actions and has wound them down in stages: no new tenant has had them since October 2023, and all existing ones went read-only on 18 November 2024. The last step is the one that removes functionality — on 18 November 2026 they stop executing and are removed. Because they’ve been read-only for two years, you can’t patch them at the deadline; the logic has to be re-implemented in Actions. If an active Rule or Hook is still live that day, the custom token claims, authorization checks and registration logic simply stop firing — often silently. Auth0 publishes Rules→Actions and Hooks→Actions migration guides.
  • Google shuts down five Gemini preview voice models on 17 November 2026. Google’s deprecations page lists five preview audio models retiring the same day: the text-to-speech models gemini-3.1-flash-tts-preview, gemini-2.5-flash-preview-tts and gemini-2.5-pro-preview-tts, and the Live API models gemini-3.1-flash-live-preview and gemini-2.5-flash-native-audio-preview-12-2025. After the cutoff a call naming one of these IDs fails rather than falling back. Google points TTS at gemini-3.8-flash-tts/gemini-3.8-flash-lite-tts and the Live API models at gemini-3.8-live — different model generations, so test voice, audio format, streaming and latency rather than assuming parity. (This is separate from the earlier Gemini 2.5 text/image deprecation already on the board.)
