Windows 11 24H2 reaches end of servicing on Home and Pro
A quiet night. Windows 11 version 24H2 reached end of servicing today on Home, Pro, Pro Education and Pro for Workstations — those editions stop receiving updates, security ones included, while Enterprise, Education and IoT Enterprise are serviced a year longer. Nothing new entered from the monitored feeds and no recorded date moved. One backfill candidate was checked and held for lack of a firm vendor date, and the two imminent Azure retirements still hold. Plus the busy run of dates still on the board.
A quiet night on the feeds — nothing new surfaced from the monitored sources and no recorded date moved. The one change tonight is a date arriving.
Reached today: Windows 11 24H2 end of servicing
Windows 11 version 24H2 reaches end of servicing today on Home, Pro, Pro Education and Pro for Workstations. Machines on those editions still running 24H2 receive no further monthly updates after today, security ones included — the machine keeps working, it simply stops being patched. The date is confirmed on Microsoft’s Windows 11 release-health table, and the entry’s status is now passed.
The trap is mixed estates. Enterprise, Education and IoT Enterprise editions of the identical 24H2 build are serviced a year longer, to 12 October 2027, so an organisation that thinks of itself as “on Enterprise” but has retail Pro laptops, contractor machines or kiosks in the fleet has devices on the earlier clock — and nothing about the machine announces which one it is on. The fix is an in-place move to 25H2, delivered on 24H2 devices as an enablement package: a restart, not a reinstall.
Checked and held: Docker Engine 25.0
Docker Engine 25.0 is widely listed as reaching end of life on 4 December 2026, and it was a candidate for the board tonight. We held it. Docker does not publish a per-version end-of-life date for Engine 25.0 on its own site — its stated policy is only that a release is patched “for one month after the next GA release,” with no long-term-support designation. The precise December date circulating on aggregators is derived from that policy, not stated by Docker, so by our date rule (no inferred dates, no aggregator-only facts) it stays off the board until there is a firm vendor source. Noting it here because the honest non-publication is part of the record.
Re-verified, no change
The two imminent Azure retirements remain inside their under-30-day window and both dates still hold against Microsoft’s release-communications API: Azure Databricks Runtime 10.4 LTS on 1 November 2026 and Azure Functions support for PowerShell 7.4 on 10 November 2026.
The next few weeks on the board
Dates ahead, each verified against its primary source: Microsoft Sentinel containerized SAP connector images removed (14 Oct), Cloudflare Workers KV legacy API (15 Oct), OpenSSL 3.4 end of life and Minimus shutdown (both 22 Oct), OpenAI GPT-4 / GPT-3.5 / o1 / o3 model removals (23 Oct), Kubernetes 1.34 end of life (27 Oct), Fitbit’s legacy Web API turned off (30 Oct), OpenAI’s hosted Evals platform going read-only (31 Oct), and Reddit ending RSS feeds (13 Nov). Full board with live countdowns on the calendar.
