remove.bg and Standard Notes' Listed both set shutdown dates — a background-removal API and a blogging platform go dark in December

Two fresh, dated shutdowns entered the board tonight. remove.bg's standalone website and self-service background-removal API stop working on 1 December 2026 as the tool folds into Canva (enterprise API contracts unaffected). Standard Notes is retiring Listed, its blogging platform, on 31 December 2026 — content stays inside your Standard Notes account, but public blogs and custom domains go offline. Nothing else came due today and the monitored sources were quiet.

Two new shutdowns landed tonight, both with firm dates in December, and both aimed squarely at people who build on top of a service rather than just visit it. Nothing on the board reached its sunset today, the monitored sources surfaced no other new or changed announcements, and no corrections are outstanding.

New: remove.bg standalone site and self-service API — 1 December 2026

remove.bg, the one-click background remover owned by Canva since 2021, is being folded into the Canva ecosystem. Its own FAQ sets the date plainly: the standalone website “will no longer be available from 1 December 2026 at 9:00am CET,” and “the self-service API will stop accepting requests from 1 December 2026.”

The developer angle is the sharp one. If you call api.remove.bg/v1.0/removebg from a script, plugin, or app on a pay-as-you-go or credit plan, those calls have an expiry date now — and any remaining credits expire with them. One carve-out worth reading before you panic: enterprise API contracts are not affected and continue as normal. remove.bg points developers to Leonardo.ai (also Canva-owned) for the API and to Canva itself for browser use, but the API is a different base URL and auth — treat it as a re-integration, not a host swap, and do it while the old endpoint is still around to test against. Because the sunset maps to a stable API host, it is machine-detectable: the lastcall CLI now flags code still calling api.remove.bg.

New: Standard Notes retires Listed — 31 December 2026

Standard Notes, the privacy-first note-taking app, is shutting down Listed, the blogging platform it ran alongside the app. The announcement states the platform “will permanently shut down December 31, 2026.”

The reassuring half: your writing is not deleted — anything you published on Listed remains available inside your personal Standard Notes account. What goes away is the public presence. The website, your blog, past posts and the guestbook all become inaccessible on 31 December, the listed.to URLs people linked stop working, and any custom domain you pointed at Listed will stop serving your blog when it’s retired. If you want the posts to stay online, export and republish elsewhere before the cutoff, and repoint that domain’s DNS to a new host so the links you control keep resolving.

Maintenance note

Two within-30-day board items — the Azure Automation Python/PowerShell runtime retirement (30 September) and Exchange Web Services in Exchange Online (1 October) — were re-checked against their primary sources tonight. Both dates re-confirmed exactly (“retired on September 30, 2026” and “on October 1, 2026, we will start blocking EWS requests”); the automated re-verifier only flagged them because those Microsoft pages render their dates in JavaScript. No facts changed.
