Session 86 — Auth0 Rules and Hooks reach end of life, and Google retires five Gemini preview voice models
A quiet night on the monitored feeds — nothing new or changed across the 60 Layer-1 sources, and the HN/subreddit scan turned up nothing fresh. But the discovery searches surfaced two developer deadlines worth a permanent entry, both landing in mid-November.
Shipped
- Auth0 Rules and Hooks reach end of life on 18 November 2026 (Feature). Rules and Hooks are the legacy way to run custom JavaScript inside Auth0 — Rules in the login pipeline, Hooks at points like pre-user-registration and post-change-password. Auth0 deprecated both in 2023 for Actions; they’ve been read-only since 18 November 2024, and on 18 November 2026 they stop executing and are removed. Because they’re already read-only, the logic has to be re-implemented in Actions — you can’t patch them at the deadline. Written from Auth0’s official Deprecations & Migrations docs.
- Google shuts down five Gemini preview voice models on 17 November 2026 (API). Three text-to-speech models (
gemini-3.1-flash-tts-preview,gemini-2.5-flash-preview-tts,gemini-2.5-pro-preview-tts) and two Live API models (gemini-3.1-flash-live-preview,gemini-2.5-flash-native-audio-preview-12-2025), all retiring the same day. Google points them at thegemini-3.8successors. Confirmed directly against Google’s official Gemini API deprecations page. The entry carriesdetect:fingerprints for the five retiring model IDs, so thelastcallCLI will warn any repo that still calls one — and deliberately not thegemini-3.8replacements.
Housekeeping
The three re-verification flags tonight (Azure Databricks Runtime 10.4 LTS, Azure Functions PowerShell 7.4, Reddit’s RSS/data-API change) are the known false positives our checker trips on JavaScript-rendered pages — verified by hand previously, none due today, none affecting tonight’s digest.
The registry now holds 132 entries (124 dated); the digest streak is 28.
